December 2025 Garden
Hello!
We moved into our first house a few months ago. One of the many reasons I wanted a house away from the city was so I could start to fulfill my dream of having my own garden. There’s not much to do now, so I’m taking advice from my favorite gardener in the world, Monty Don, and just observing before making any real plans. I’m a very impatient person so it’s a nice change of pace to force myself to sit back and watch.
Obviously, that didn’t last very long!
Knowing that I can’t sit still - I’m using my first season here to just play and experiment, which I have a hard time doing because I want to get it “right” the first time. I’m trying not to think too far ahead into the future, which is also hard for me. It’s also hard to find time to plant, because I can really only do it when Rainer is sleeping or someone else is watching him! Since we are already in autumn/winter the only things I could plant were bulbs, which happen to fascinate me so I was very happy to dive in. Also, I hate ticks and so I’m very happy to do some planting knowing that the cold is providing a little safety for me.
Here is a breakdown of what and where I’ve planted so far (this is more just a log for me so I don’t forget in a few months when things start popping up):
Back of house: Tulips (midnight in Paris and frilly mix, with Queen of the night and fritillaria meleagris mixed in, before I sectioned into areas)
Front of house by steps: 3 giant allium with crocus
Front of house by driveway: daffodils and crocus and some random tulips
Container farther: we took out all the old stuff and put in a liner and new soil. Layered with daffodils, tulips, crocus, then dwarf iris
Container closer: we did this too late and the soil was already frozen, so we did a messy planting of tulips (queen of night and frilly mix) then a layer of dwarf iris on top
First real planter: I bought this on BF from Gardenheir. I’m so excited about this. Inspired by Monty. I forget what I planted in the bottom, but the top layer is dwarf irises.
Area under trees by long driveway: snowdrops
Next to the garage:
1) Peony, Bowl of Beauty (like right next to the garage)
2) Peony, Sarah Bernhardt (a bit more out)
Ending here with some of my favorite Garden moments saved in my phone:
